2017 Australasian HIV & AIDS Conference joint with 2017 Australasian Sexual Health Conference National Convention Centre Canberra 6 – 9 November 2017

Disclosure Sofa Project at the HIV&AIDS Conference

Disclosure of HIV status is part of life for all people living with HIV. But as a key site for encountering stigma and the negative emotions and self-perceptions connected to HIV status, it often represents a significant personal challenge.

The Disclosure Sofa is a community cultural engagement activity that will provide a space for all people "regardless of HIV status" to speak out against HIV stigma and discrimination at the 2017 Australasian HIV & AIDS Conference.

Participants are invited to share and record their experiences of HIV and disclosure on the Disclosure Sofa. Selected works resulting from contributions will be published and showcased to support the Disclosure Project, an online resource that empowers people living with HIV to articulate and share their stories of disclosure to build personal and community resilience and skills for disclosing HIV status.

The Disclosure Sofa and the Disclosure Project are a collaboration between Living Positive Victoria and ACON with support from the Victorian AIDS Council (VAC) and The Institute of Many (TIM).

The Disclosure Sofa is being brought to the 2017 Australasian HIV & AIDS Conference with the support of Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM), The Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations (AFAO) and the National Association of People Living with HIV Australia (NAPWHA).
